Arthritis and Exercise

Many people have arthritis and joint pain. One of the easiest and inexpensive ways to improve your mobility is to exercise. Doctors recommend physical activity to decrease joint pain, improve flexibility, and strengthen the muscles around your joints. Walking and swimming are two of the most cost effective methods of exercise for arthritis.

Exercise can be beneficial for the most common types of Arthritis: rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. It’s never too late to become active but you’ll want to ask your doctor first. There are many forms of exercise to help keep your joints limber such as yoga, Pilates, walking, strengthening exercises, and swimming. Ask your doctor if there are times you should avoid exercise and how long you should exercise per week.
